Bar padlock with key
Central Europe, 17th century
Polished forged iron. The housing of the padlock has a side wall and a cylindrical bolt. Internal spring lock; key opening in the centre of the housing. Turning the key releases three springs inside the lock, causing the sides of the lock to pop up. The oval bow of the key has a spike in the centre; the shank is hollow and the bit has been filed.
